St. Louis to Springfield, MO – day seven

Today is another driving day. Back to Springfield only this time in Missouri instead of Illinois. Who knows which one is Homer’s Springfield? Not me.

The day started late because the drapes in the hotel room were so heavy no hint of morning light came in. At 10:20 a.m. I was shoved awake by Dan saying we had to check out by 11:00 a.m. I took the dog down and warned the front desk that we were going to be late. They replied, “No problem, we won’t kick you out.” I gave Duncan a chance to do his morning business and went back to the room to pack up the car load of stuff that we dragged in and out of every hotel. We basically unpack like we’re staying for a month, even when we’re only staying one night, which gets a little tiresome.

We decided that for lunch we’d give Duncan a couple more hours at the Bar K and we’d try something else from their menu. All went well again this visit and we started off the drive to Springfield, MO with a happy, tired dog.

There is one stop along the way that is on our list. It is Uranus, MO. A quirky old-time entertainment stop that has been around only since 2000, when it was started with a strip club. Now, except for the bad puns everywhere, the town looks pretty family-friendly. Especially if your family has any young kids that will laugh at almost any butt joke. It was definitely worth the stop.

When we arrived in Springfield, MO we were both tired and decided to get groceries and a new bag for Duncan’s luggage. Somehow his bag was totally full of holes and had almost ripped out one side’s entire seem. How you ask? To be honest, I think it was just an ancient bag I chose from our reusable bags and couldn’t take being forced in and out of the back of the car, scrunched up again his kennel. He would never route through the bag as we were sleeping, I’m sure.

An evening of typing and sorting through pictures pretty much took up the rest of the time before bed.
