Chicago, IL – day three

I guess this is the official start of our Route 66 trip, but there are a couple of previous posts here. We found the street sign depicting the beginning of Route 66 in Illinois. When we happened upon the sign there was a French couple taking each other’s pictures beside the sign so I offered to take their picture together. They, in turn, offered to take ours. We both really like the International, friendly, and dog-friendly city of Chicago. I just wish it wasn’t about the same temperature as the Twin Cities and that their traffic wasn’t so horrendous (even if it is the sign of a bustling city, lol).

Lunch today was at the Emerald Loop just a couple of blocks from our hotel. It’s a lovely Irish pub we went to the last time we were in Chicago with Duncan in August 2021. The fish and chips and Guinness beer were perfect! After lunch and another long river walk with Duncan we headed to the Art Institute of Chicago.

I was looking specifically for a couple of things, the Egyptian exhibit and a Korean glass exhibit called “Translated Vase”. We ended up seeing the exhibits “Life and After-Life in Ancient Egypt” and “A New View of African Art”. Even though I asked four different museum attendants I never did find the “Translated Vase” exhibit. It’s possible I got something wrong with that one, who knows. However, wandering around to find it took us by the Asian ceramics, which did include a number of Korean pieces. They were still in one piece though, not “translated” from broken shards to new designs. We also saw some of the American Indian exhibit and a number of other beautiful pieces.

After a nap and another river walk with Duncan, we headed to Jollibee for Filipino dinner.
