A Foodie in the Philippines

In my last post I included the first day’s food. Now we are a little more than a week into the trip and I want to post some of the other great meals/foods that we have eaten so far. There is some Asian Fusion, Japanese, Filipino, Vietnamese, and Italian (sort of also fused with Asian :). I tend toward bread and seafood while Dan tends toward rice and meat, so we usually compromise back and forth when choosing restaurants and food types. It obviously makes for more variety for a food blog as well as more choices of restaurants.

One of our favorite places was RackShack and its parent restaurant Racks. We never ordered the same thing twice.

One type of food we often agree upon is Japanese cuisine. Here are a few dishes we have tasted so far.

Shrimp is a favorite of mine and here I am at Shrimp Bucket. I went here with my friend, Dennis, because Dan was not up for the amount of work required in getting at the good stuff. I also had an Oriental Shrimp Skewer dish, with sesame rice, in Bohol at the restaurant of our resort.

Here are a few of the traditional Filipino dishes we have eaten. Dan cooks a lot of Filipino food at home so mostly we stuck to specialty food because it’s difficult to find ingredients at home.

Since I’m basically posting everything we have eaten, these last few are what remains of our meals here. Some more Asian, Italian with some hints of Filipino, American, and of course, alcohol.

Sometimes I surprise even myself with my food obsession. There are only two pictures of food here that I did not even taste. One was because I was not with Dan at the time he was eating it and the other is because I was facing three dishes of my own and just could not fathom having another bite. I also know that not everything I have eaten here is exclusively available in the Philippines. In fact, most foods are nearly global these days. However, eating is one of my biggest pleasures when I travel. I plan my food intake on a daily basis to be hungry and appreciative of new taste experiences and everyone I visit is coerced into some sort of gastronomic exercise.

I still remember the best meal I had in my life. It was in France in a Michelin-star restaurant recommended to me by a friend’s wife who is a travel wizard. Is eating also your thing? If so, do you remember your best-ever experience?
