It was quite an easy jaunt from Springfield, IL to St. Louis, MO. Only about 90 miles, but keep in mind that we did most of our touring around Springfield on day five, the day we left, so we were pretty busy. We ended up getting to St. Louis late afternoon passing over the Mississippi via the Stan Span or more officially, the Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge. It was an unplanned plus that we came into Missouri via this bridge since it’s quite spectacular and has only been open since 2014. Once in St. Louis we got checked into the Last Hotel and unloaded our bags into the room. Then we immediately headed out to walk to the Gateway Arch. It was a beautiful, sunny day and the walk was not too long. It was just a little over a mile to get there. We had lots of time to take pictures and look at the Arch. Oh my goodness, it is so high up when observed from the ground. Swaying in the sky on what seemed like two ends of a rainbow. Actually, I don’t think it swayed. It was probably me swaying when I stood there looking up at the tiny windows at the very top center. Dan said that we had to go up, for the experience, if nothing else. I said I’d have to think about it, but that I doubted I would be able to do it. So here are the pictures from the ground, at least.
We decided to continue our training for leaving Duncan in the hotel in his kennel so we could go to a restaurant for dinner. He has been doing well for the shorter times we’ve left him. Not totally without anxiety, but it seems like it’s reduced each time we return. So we hit a funky little pizza and beer place called the Sliced Pint very close (next door) to our hotel. They had great pizza and a large selection of beers. Between the two of us, we tried four different beers and had two different pizzas. One of the pizzas was chicken and pesto and the other was meat lovers. And yes, they were the same size, just taken at a bad angle. Unfortunately, I didn’t write down the beers…next time, I guess.
That’s it for this day. We have a couple of exciting things planned for tomorrow! Do you think you would have liked this pesto pizza? In my opinion, it was yummy!
